SEATTLE WSU has a number of academic, alumni and entertainment events planned for its sixth annual “WSU in Seattle” Aug. 27 – 31, which will be highlighted by the Cougar Gridiron Classic at Quest Field, where WSU will take on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State University.

The Sterling Savings Cougar Pregame Rally, a great Cougar football experience for fans of all ages, will run from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Qwest Field Event Center, 800 Occidental Ave., South Seattle. The rally will feature the WSU Cougar Marching Band, cheer squad and Butch, the WSU Cougar mascot.
Also prior to the game, a free Future Cougar Day academic fair at the Qwest Field Event Center will provide the chance to learn more about opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional education at WSU. The week will also mark the fall kickoff of WSU’s “Innovators” luncheon series, in which leading faculty experts explore a variety of topics of significance to Washington and the world. The series will begin Aug. 27 with Amit Dhingra, assistant professor and scientist with the WSU Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, giving a presentation entitled “Intelli-GEN-Design: Fruit of the Future,” which focuses on new ideas for improving the quality and technology of growing tree fruit, a multibillion dollar industry in the state. “Cougar Jazz Night,” with Jazz Northwest, WSU’s faculty jazz group, is set for 8 p.m. Aug. 27 at Tula’s Restaurant and Nightclub, 2214 2nd Ave. Tickets are $50 each, $90 for couples. “A Taste of Washington State University,” is an opportunity to sample from the bounty of Washington-produced beverages and fine foods prepared by several of the Seattle area’s premier chefs. The event will run from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street, Seattle. Diners will learn about the myriad ways WSU Extension and the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences work with local producers and purveyors to give consumers the freshest, most flavorful food available.

The WSU College of Business Power Breakfast is set for 7:30 – 9 a.m. Aug. 29 in the Metropolitan Ballroom at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers, 1400 Sixth Ave. Tod Leiweke, CEO of the Seattle Seahawks and president of First & Goal Inc., will be the keynote speaker. Westlake Center Mall will be the site of a WSU Spirit Rally, set to begin at 5 p.m. Aug. 29. WSU Head Football coach Paul Wulff, the WSU Marching Band, cheer squad and Butch will be in attendance.
