Four New Members Join WSU College of Business National Board of Advisors

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University College of Business recently announced the addition of four new members to its National Board of Advisors: Mark S. Malbon, John Miller, Joseph D. Sims, and Clarice Turner.

Mark Malbon (’77 Business Administration/Accounting) is executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Roland Corporation U.S., a manufacturer of electronic musical instruments such as keyboards, synthesizers and digital pianos. A certified public accountant, he was previously an audit partner with Deloitte & Touche and served in offices in Seattle, New York and Los Angeles. From 1986-1988, he was the firm’s national representative to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) for a two-year term as a Practice Fellow. In addition to his service on the NBoA, Malbon severs as vice chair for the college’s accounting advisory board.

John Miller (’92 Business Administration/Accounting) is the senior managing director for the Northwest Region of Cushman & Wakefield, and has 15 years of experience in commercial real estate. He joined Cushman & Wakefield of Washington, Inc. as senior managing director in 2004 and added Cushman & Wakefield of Oregon, Inc. to his responsibilities in the spring of 2006. Miller has received the honor of being named a Rising Star for 2007 by “Commercial Property News” and was featured in the Puget Sound Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty” in 2004. In addition to his service on the NBoA, Miller is also a member of the WSU Real Estate advisory board.

Joe Sims serves as vice president and general manager for T-Mobile USA. He is responsible for broadband services such as T-Mobile HotSpot, HotSpot@Home, and T-Mobile’s Web and content businesses, and is also responsible for new business development and strategic partnerships at T-Mobile. Sims joined T-Mobile with over twenty years of senior management, consulting, and business development experience in electronic commerce; software, systems integration; telecommunications and Internet-related businesses. Additionally, he provides significant leadership for T-Mobile’s international broadband initiatives around WiFi and its integration with traditional wireless services. 

Clarice Turner is the president and chief operating officer of Vancouver, Wash.-based Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, the fifth largest pizza chain in the country with over 1,000 locations. She joined Papa Murphy’s this year following a highly-respected 16-year stint with Yum! Brands, where she progressed rapidly through a variety of executive management positions with its subsidiary Taco Bell Corporation. Turner attended Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, and earned her undergraduate degree and MBA from San Francisco State University. In addition to her new service on the NBoA, Turner serves as the advisory board president of WSU’s School of Hospitality, having been a member of the board since 1994.

“The new members will be a beneficial addition to our board,” said CB Dean Eric Spangenberg. “As part of the global business community, their advice and recommendations will allow us to better focus our resources based on current business practices.”

The National Board of Advisors was formed in 2004, and has now been expanded to include members of the college’s departmental advisory boards, bringing the total number of members to 168. The board is comprised of business leaders from around the region and the country, fosters closer ties between the CB, its alumni, its students and the business community. In addition to the traditional role of fund raising, the Board provides input on education and curriculum to CB faculty and helps to promote employment and internship opportunities for CB students.

The WSU College of Business is accredited at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The college spans the four campuses of WSU with the largest campus in Pullman and urban campuses located in Spokane, Vancouver, and the Tri-Cities area.
