RICHLAND, Wash. Washington State University Tri-Cities is seeking service learning projects for the fall 2007 freshman class.
Each of the 125 freshmen will participate in a service learning project for a local nonprofit organization. The goal is for the students to gain community knowledge, learn civic responsibility and grow in self-awareness.
About 25 projects are needed. The students will start the projects on Sept. 17 and are expected to complete their projects by Nov. 16.
The students will be teamed in small groups. The project will require approximately three hours from each student in the group so the entire project should be able to be completed within 15 hours.
Examples of service learning projects completed at other WSU campuses include tutoring, homeless and hunger awareness, senior companionship and literacy awareness.
Nonprofits should nominate their service learning projects by Sept. 10. Contact Johan Curtiss, WSU Tri-Cities career services manager, at 509-372-7351 or jcurtiss@tricity.wsu.edu for an application or for additional information.
