“Go Wild” Science Camp Brings Animal Adventures to WSU Tri-Cities

RICHLAND, Wash. — WSU Tri-Cities is going to the dogs — and the reptiles, and the raptors — during this week’s “Go Wild! Awesome Animal Adventure” summer science camp.

About 90 children are attending the science camp July 16-20 on the Washington State University Tri-Cities campus in the Consolidated Information Center (CIC) at 2770 University Drive, Richland.

Scheduled presentations include:
— Tuesday, July 17, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Columbia Basin Dog Training Club, four rotations with about 20 campers each, upstairs in the CIC.
— Wednesday, July 18, presentations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by “The Reptile Woman” Sabrina Grafton in CIC 216.
— Thursday, July 19, presentations at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by the WSU Raptor Club, upstairs in the CIC.
— Friday, July 20, 9:30 to 11:45 a.m., “The Big Event” with the Columbia Basin Dog Training Club. Campers’ families are invited to watch the dogs run a course around the CIC, including the common area, the outside patio, and the hillside below patio.

Other science camp activities throughout the week include building a microscope, examining a bug’s life, entering the world of bats and bird, and dissecting owl pellets. Contact LoAnn Ayers at 509-727-8774 to confirm specific daily activities and locations.

This is the second of four summer science camps held on the WSU Tri-Cities campus for kids who will be entering kindergarten through fifth grade in Fall 2007. The weeklong sessions use hands-on activities and curriculum from Discovery Quest (www.scienceadventures.com).
