RICHLAND WSU Tri-Cities will confer 314 diplomas during an outdoor ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, May 9, on the campus at 2710 University Drive, Richland.
The class of 2008 includes four students who have earned their doctoral degrees, 74 with master’s degrees and 236 receiving a bachelor’s degree. More than 200 students will participate in the ceremony.
WSU President Elson S. Floyd will preside, along with WSU Tri-Cities Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein. The keynote speaker is Bonnie J. Dunbar, president and CEO of The Museum of Flight in Seattle, a retired NASA Mission Specialist astronaut and veteran of five space flights, and a graduate of Sunnyside High School.
The ceremony also includes recognizing WSU Tri-Cities Distinguished Alumni of the Year: Sandra J. Matheson of the College of Business and Nicole Blake of the College of Education.
This nineteenth class from WSU Tri-Cities includes three recipients of the Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science and one in Environmental Science. The College of Education has 36 students earning master’s degrees, followed by 13 master’s each in Business and Nursing, eight in Sciences, three in Engineering, and one in Computer Science.
Commencement will be outside on the grass between the East Building and the Consolidated Information Center, rain or shine. Guests are reminded to dress appropriately for the outdoor setting. The WSU Tri-Cities Intercollegiate College of Nursing will be running a first aid tent.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to commencement no tickets are needed. Seating is being provided for up to 3,500 people with 2,700 chairs on the grass and room for 800 in the bleachers. The ceremony and reception are expected to last two hours.
