Recently Retired WSU Professor Awarded “2006 Distinguished Achievement Award”

PULLMAN, Wash. A recently retired professor in Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine has been awarded the 2006 Washington State Veterinary Medical Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award.

Clive C. Gay, retired professor and director of the WSU Field Disease Investigations Unit and head of production medicine at WSU’s veterinary college, received the award Sept. 30, at the association’s annual meeting in Yakima.

Dr. Gay was instrumental in establishing and operating the most extensive animal disease field investigation service in the state.  His work took him to every county in Washington and extensively into other states and provinces of the Pacific Northwest.

“Dr. Clive Gay is a true legend among cattle producers in this state and region,” said Dr. Warwick Bayly, dean of WSU’s veterinary college.  “His recent retirement leaves a legacy of service and durability that will be difficult to match.  Beside his extraordinary expertise at population medicine, Dr. Gay earned both the trust and respect of university administrators and producers throughout the Pacific Northwest.  His attention to building trust, noting details, and keeping confidences has led to a remarkably accurate knowledge of agricultural animal disease occurrences and their control in this state and beyond.”

“I want to thank all those who considered what I did important enough to honor with this award,” said the soft-spoken Dr. Gay.  “I’m truly humbled.”
