With an eye on strategic planning and budgeting goals, WSU is launching an assessment of its nonacademic programs.
Although similar to the Academic Affairs Program Prioritization process begun earlier this year, this effort is different in that not all units will conduct a self-review simultaneously, nor will units complete a common matrix.
The Nonacademic Review Committee (NRC) will begin by developing an initial list of units for review. This list will be based, in part, upon previous work completed by individual departments and other task forces that have reviewed efficiency and effectiveness across the university.
Administrators of those units receive a list of guiding questions to assist in the review and analysis. After organizing and preparing the material, those administrators present the information to the NRC.
Greg Royer, vice president for business and finance and chair of the NRC, said he envisions a highly interactive process.
“It’s important to note that many nonacademic units are reviewed on a continual basis, as area administrators seek to balance competing priorities.
“This process will build upon reviews that, in some cases, are already taking place. We have a strong committee, and I’ve no doubt that by looking across organizational lines and working closely with the administrators of nonacademic units, together we will create greater efficiencies for the university.”
The NRC held its first meeting April 18. Other committee members are:
Matt Skinner, Budget Office
Fran Hermanson, Student Affairs Research and Assessment
Mike Malcolm, College of Veterinary Medicine
