WSU to Hold University Convocation Friday at Beasley

PULLMAN, Wash. – Incoming Washington State University students and their parents are invited to join faculty, staff and administrators at the University Convocation to be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Beasley Coliseum.

The event is designed to welcome new individuals to the WSU learning community and to stress the academic foundations of the institution.

“Convocation has taken on different forms through the years,” said Luke Jones, assistant director of New Student Programs. “This year is really the beginning of a new tradition.”

Convocation 2006 will place an emphasis on the quality of education received at WSU and what it means to be a scholar.

Convocation speakers will include WSU President V. Lane Rawlins, WSU Executive Vice President and Provost Robert Bates; Kenneth Alhadeff, chair of the Board of Regents, Thomas Dickinson, a Regents professor of physics and Interim Dean of Students Luci Loera.

Following the Convocation, the 22nd Annual All Campus Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Mooberry Track Field. The picnic is free to all WSU students, compliments of the University and Dining Services. All faculty, staff, and A/P employees may attend the picnic free, compliments of TIAA-CREF, by showing their Cougar Card.

Classes at all four of WSU’s campuses – in Pullman, Spokane, Vancouver and Tri-Cities, will begin Monday.
