Bates Technical College President Honored by Washington Small Business Development Center

TACOMA, Wash. – Bates Technical College President David B. Borofsky received the Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network Silver Star Award yesterday (April 19) at a small ceremony on campus. The college is a long-time supporter of the Washington SBDC, and worked closely with the Small Business Administration, SBDC and other service providers late last year to renegotiate lease space for the SBDC at the Bates campus.

The Washington SBDC Silver Star award was introduced last year during the network’s 25th anniversary. The award is presented to clients and stakeholders who helped promote and expand the reach of valuable Washington SBDC services and the SBDC’s vision to provide expert technical assistance, training and business services to small businesses across the state. Past recipients of the Silver Star award include the Port of Walla Walla, the Wenatchee Valley Chamber, the Puget Sound Business Journal, Seattle University and several other key stakeholders across the state.

Bates Technical College and the SBDC have had an excellent relationship for many years. Bates is a strong supporter of the Small Business Administration services, as shown by the creation of a comprehensive business services center that includes the SBDC, Service Corps of Retired Executives, Office of Minority & Women’s Business Enterprises and Bates Business and Management Training Center.

“The ability of the SBDC to be a premier provider of business services and create such positive economic results in communities is due in large part to the strong support of our partners.” said Washington SBDC Director Brett Rogers. “The ongoing support of President Borofsky and Bates Technical College allows the entire region to benefit via job creation and investment in local businesses.”

The SBDC provides no-charge confidential counseling and low-cost training to current and prospective business owners. It is a cooperative effort between Washington State University College of Business, Western Washington University, community colleges, economic development organizations and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
