Veterinary College Open House Features Working Dog Demonstrations

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will host an open house in conjunction with WSU Mom’s Weekend activities.

The event will be held at the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (April 8).  A demonstration by working dogs will be featured at noon. Handlers from the Washington State Patrol, Yakima County Search and Rescue, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Schutzhund USA will put the skilled canine athletes through their paces. Also featured will be local sled dog competitors and flyball teams.

The day begins with exotic animal and pet parenting lectures at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The annual Canine Canter, a fun run/walk with pets also begins at 10 a.m. A small entry fee affords all participants a t-shirt. All day, moms will be given free flowers.

A dog wash for donations will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with all proceeds going toward WSU’s Shelter Medicine Club.

Throughout the day, tours of the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be offered. The public can take advantage of free dog and cat food samples in the exhibit area as well as many prize giveaways. Radio 99.5 FM “The Bull” will host a live on-air broadcast with premium prizes at the breaks.
