Parking and Transportation Officials Prepare for Mom’s Weekend

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University parking and transportation officials are urging people to plan ahead to avoid problems getting around campus during Mom’s Weekend, April 11-13.

The weekend will be highlighted by two concerts by Elton John and his band, at 8 p.m. April 12 and 7 p.m. April 13. A full slate of other Mom’s Weekend events will also bring people to the Pullman campus and community.

Because of Mom’s Weekend, visitor parking permits will not be required beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. through Sunday.  Visitors may park in Visitor, Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue spaces.  Restricted and reserved spaces such as disability, service and fire zones will remain in effect.

Bridgette Johnson, field operations manager for WSU Parking and Transportation, said, “Having Elton John perform on campus for Mom’s Weekend is fantastic, and we want to get the word out to people to be ready for the parking and traffic challenges.”

Parking and Transportation officials are working with WSU Police, Pullman Transit, and Beasley Coliseum officials to offer alternatives to help ease parking and traffic problems.  The following are some suggestions:

Plan ahead for the concert.  Many parking areas near Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum will fill quickly. Other general parking locations may take a few minutes to walk to the event.

Parking for persons with disabilities will be reserved in areas around the Coliseum. Every effort will be made to accommodate special needs parking. For more information on special needs parking, please contact WSU Parking and Transportation Services (509-335-PARK) or the WSU Visitor Center (509-335-8633).

Pullman Transit will be operating their usual Saturday late night schedule until 3 a.m.  Consider using the transit system for the Saturday night concert to avoid parking and traffic challenges
