2005 Dad’s Weekend Activities Set for Nov. 4-5

PULLMAN, Wash. – A full slate of events is set for Nov. 4-5 as the Washington State University campus celebrates Dad’s Weekend and prepares to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Pac-10 football match-up at 2 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 5) at Martin Stadium.

The Beach Boys, featuring Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, will follow the game with an 8:30 p.m. performance at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at all TicketsWest outlets, by phone at (800) 325-SEAT or online at www.beasley.wsu.edu. The group’s hits include “Help Me Rhonda,” “California Girls,” “Good Vibrations” and its biggest hit, the 1988 release “Kokomo.”

The 22^nd annual Winefest celebration offers sessions from 5-7 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. Friday (Nov. 4) in Gladish Community and Culture Center. Tickets are $25 each for persons 21 years and older and can be purchased online at https://winefest.wsu.edu/. The evening includes wine sampling and sales of more than 30 Northwest wineries, hors d’oeuvres, student-created culinary delights, a silent auction and live music.

A Friday evening Feast of the Arts dining experience will feature a four-course meal inspired by the exotic tastes of the Pacific Rim from 6-8 p.m. in Todd Hall Dining Room. WSU’s piano faculty and pieces of Marquesan art will provide insight about the culture of the islands. Washington wines will also be served. Tickets are $60 per person. Vocal Extravaganza is set for 8 p.m. Friday in Bryan Hall Theatre. The evening will feature Madrigal Singers, University Singers, Concert Choir, Opera Workshop, VoJazz and Crimson Revue. Tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2-4 in the Kimbrough Hall lobby or at the door the night of the performance.

The Roy Lichtenstein Print Retrospective exhibit will be on display in the WSU Museum of Art, on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Saturday (Nov. 5) events begin with the annual Dad’s Breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Compton Union Building Lair. Scheduled speakers include Provost Robert Bates, ASWSU President Isaac Wells, Pullman mayor and “voice of the Cougars” Glenn Johnson, a member of the WSU football staff and Cougar mascot Butch. Cougar Conversations will present four free Saturday lectures that highlight the research of WSU faculty members. Howard Hosick, School of Biological Sciences, will present “Trapping Cancer Cells” at 10 a.m. in the CUB 214-216; Susmita Bose, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, will present “Next Generation Bone Implant” at 10 a.m. in the CUB 233; Martin Pall, molecular biosciences, will discuss “Mystery Illnesses—Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Gulf War Syndrome and More” at 11:15 a.m. in CUB 212; and Anita Vasavada, bioengineering, will speak on “Understanding Whiplash Injury” 11:15 a.m. in the CUB 220. An enactment of Galileo’s historical experiment to prove the Laws of Falling Bodies will begin at noon with a pumpkin drop from the 12^th floor of Webster Physical Sciences Building, the tallest building on campus.

The WSU Visitor Center at the Cougar Depot, located at the corner of Davis Way and Grand Avenue in downtown Pullman, will be open from 9 a.m. to one and a half hours after the WSU football game.
