WSU Benefit Production of “The Vagina Monologues” Seeks a Few Good Women

PULLMAN, Wash. — All women are invited to audition for the 2006 Washington State University benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 in the Compton Union Building, Room 220.

Women ages 18 to 80, from all ethnicities, backgrounds and sexual orientations, are encouraged to audition. No acting experience or preparation is necessary. The 2006 play performances are set for Feb. 24, 25 and 26.

“The Vagina Monologues” is a play based on Eve Ensler’s interviews with more than 200 women about their experiences with sex, violence and life in general. The result is a combination of voices with happy, sad, funny, heartbreaking, empowering and outrageous stories to tell.

The play is part of V-Day, a worldwide effort to stop violence against women through education, awareness and fundraising. WSU performs the monologues as part of V-Day’s College Campaign, which allows students to raise money for local beneficiaries.

Last year, 22 women from around campus and throughout the community came together to perform the monologues to three sold out audiences. The 2005 event raised more than $8,000 to help end violence against women through local, national and international beneficiaries.
