Eastern Washington PBS Stations Begin Airing Memoirs of Local WWII Veterans

PULLMAN, Wash.–KWSU-TV (Pullman/Spokane/L-C Valley regions) and KTNW Public Television (Tri-Cities/Walla Walla regions) are rolling out, “World War II—Our Neighbors’ Stories,” a locally produced series of over one-hundred short segments reliving the everyday events, moments of pride and acts of  bravery by local veterans and their families, beginning on Thursday Sept. 13.

Local survivors share their World War II experiences, from the air to the trenches, through vivid recollections and personal photographs. From a generation that often didn’t speak of these experiences, KWSU Media will share the extraordinary stories of over 40 veterans and family members.

The segments will air between programming, excluding children’s shows, seven days a week until the end of the year. New segments of the series will continue to debut throughout that time.

Special Web sites have been created for this project. People can visit www.kwsu.org or www.ktnw.org, to view all of the stories that have been broadcast, plus read additional memoirs, see personal photos, post their own memoirs, get help in finding your own veteran’s history or watch short American propaganda films produced during the war.

The series airs in complement to Ken Burns’ 16-hour documentary series, “The War,” which premieres Sept. 23 through Oct. 3 on KTNW and weekly on KWSU-TV beginning Oct. 14.
