WSU School of Hospitality Business Management Announces 25th Annual Burtenshaw Lecture Series

PULLMAN, Wash. – Jim Treadway, chief executive officer of MTM Luxury Lodging, L.L.C., will be the guest speaker for the Washington State University School of Hospitality Business Management’s 25th annual Burtenshaw Lecture at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in Todd Hall 116.

A 3 p.m. reception will precede Treadway’s lecture, which is entitled “Life, Lodging, Luxury, and WWF.”

A third generation hotelier whose roots began with Treadway Inns in New England, Treadway attended Dartmouth College, served in the Marine Corps, and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Hotel Administration. He is a respected leader in the U.S. hotel industry and a frequent speaker and panelist at industry events.  He has been a guest lecturer at WSU, Cornell, Florida State, Nova University, and the University of Washington.

A former board member and executive committee member of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, Treadway is also a past president of Washington State’s Hotel and Lodging Association. Additionally, he is an officer and board member of the Seattle-King County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and a founding member of Seattle’s Lodging Roundtable. He is a past Chairman of the Board of IndeCorp, now known as the Preferred Hotel Group.  Treadway currently serves on the board of Merrill Gardens, L.L.C., which owns and operates 60 retirement and assisted living communities across the U.S.

The Burtenshaw Lecture Series is free and open to the public. The series was created by alumnus Jerry (’56 Hotel and Restaurant Administration) and Angelina Burtenshaw to honor the memory of their son, Calvin Brett. Since the series’ first speaker in 1981, guest presenters have included top names, experts, and entrepreneurs in the field of hospitality. Their topics have covered a wide range of industry and timely subjects, and students, faculty, staff, and members of the community attend the annual or biannual lectures. The Burtenshaws also created a memorial scholarship for students in Hospitality Business Management in their son’s name.

Jerry Burtenshaw is chairman of ABC Services (Seattle), a founding member of the School of Hospitality Business Management advisory board, a former trustee of the WSU Foundation, a President’s Associate, and 1982 recipient of the WSU Alumni Achievement Award.
