Cultural Calendar Available Online

PULLMAN, Wash.–While many Americans take a day off to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day this month, people from different cultures and nations will be celebrating other holidays.

Brazilians will commemorate the anniversaries of Rio de Janeiro (Jan. 20) and Sao Paulo (Jan. 25), Australians will celebrate their official national day on Jan. 26 and the Chinese New Year starts on Jan. 29.

Washington State University’s Office of Equity and Diversity has posted a cultural calendar for 2006 on their web-site to create awareness of the many different religious and national holidays. The calendar provides the name, date and country of origin for each holiday.

Christy Fitzgerald, publications, communication and web coordinator at the Office of Equity and Diversity, encourages people to check the calendar before scheduling meetings or events on days when others may be celebrating a holiday.

The calendar is located at https://www.diversity.wsu.edu/calendar.html.
