WSU Business Welcomes ShareBuilder CEO Jeff Seely as Entrepreneur-in-Residence

PULLMAN, Wash.—The chairman and chief executive officer of one of the nation’s largest online brokerages, Jeffrey T. Seely of ShareBuilder Corp. and ShareBuilder Securities Corp., will meet with Washington State University entrepreneurship, engineering and financial management students Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Pullman.



He is the 2005 Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the WSU College of Business and Economics.



Seely founded ShareBuilder Securities in 1999 to serve the personal finance needs of all types of investors and introduced the ShareBuilder investing service to encourage people to start investing and save regularly. Corporate headquarters are in Bellevue.



Under his leadership, ShareBuilder has amassed more than one million brokerage accounts and is currently the seventh largest online brokerage in the U.S. Customers can invest in dollar-based amounts and pay some of the lowest transaction fees in the industry–$4 or less. There are no account minimums, no investment minimums and no inactivity fees.



“Jeff Seely is an innovator in his industry, and we welcome him to campus to share his experiences and valuable insights with WSU students,” said College of Business and Economics Dean Eric R. Spangenberg.


 


Seely has more than 20 years experience in the securities industry in New York City and San Francisco. Before joining ShareBuilder in 1998, he worked for Robertson Stephens & Co., Dean Witter Reynolds and Smith Barney. He is a trustee on the Washington State Investment Board, president of the board of the University of Washington World Series of Performing Arts and is a director of the National Association of Corporate Directors NW.  He has a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
