WSU Tri-Cities Hosts “Careers In Education” Students Friday

TRI-CITIES, Wash. — On Friday (Sept. 30), about 80 high school students from across the Tri-Cities will be on campus at Washington State University Tri-Cities, getting a real-world, hands-on look at what it means to be a teacher.

They are all part of the “Careers In Education” program, which is designed to prepare students who want to pursue a career as classroom teachers. Juniors or seniors, they are scheduled into integrated courses in their schools and participate in workshops such as Friday’s sessions on the WSU campus. The sessions will run from mid-morning to early afternoon.

Activities will include both large group sessions in the East Building Auditorium, 2710 University Drive on the north Richland campus and smaller breakout sessions during the morning and early afternoon.

Included will be story-telling using puppets the students will make and techniques new teachers can use to interest young students in reading.
