PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University friend and supporter Doris Cleveland of Colbert, was presented the WSU Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award during the foundation’s awards luncheon on the Pullman campus Oct. 3.
As a WSU volunteer, Cleveland has served on the President’s Associates Council in Spokane, as president and co-chair of the Spokane Cougar Club in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and is a member of the WSU Golf Tournament Event Club. She served as chair of WSU’s Fall Sports Banquet in 2002 and 2003 and was a driving force behind the creation of two popular fund raising events “Football 101” and “Football and Fashion.”
In addition to her busy volunteer schedule, Cleveland and her husband, Philip, a 1956 WSU alumnus, opened their home as a host family for a basketball team during the 2003 Regional NCAA Tournament in Spokane.
“Doris’ commitment to Washington State University and Cougar Athletics has been second to none,” said WSU Foundation President Richard Frisch. “Her efforts have been invaluable in maintaining an active Cougar presence in the Spokane area.”
The WSU Foundation Outstanding Service Awards are given annually as a public testimonial to individuals who have made outstanding singular or collective contributions in service to the WSU Foundation and WSU.
Also receiving Outstanding Service Awards in 2003 are Philip Abelson of Washington, D.C.; Sandra Kay Fryer of Orinda, Calif.; Floyd and Judy Rogers of Renton; and Skyler Smick of Brush Prairie.
