School of Music and Theatre Arts to Present Cole Porter’s “High Society”

PULLMAN, Wash — The Washington State University School of Music and Theatre Arts will present Cole Porter’s classic musical “High Society” at the Bryan Hall Theatre at 8 p.m. on July 23, 24, 30 and 31.

Featuring a number of Porter classics, including “Let’s Misbehave,” “Just One of Those Things,” “I Love Paris,” and the award-winning “True Love,” the WSU production is directed by Julie Anne Wieck, associate professor of music, and features a cast of 15 actors and singers and an orchestra of 16 musicians conducted by Emmett O’Leary, a graduate student.

“High Society” traces its origins to the popular 1940 play, “The Philadelphia Story.” A romantic comedy, it was first released as a film featuring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart. The musical version, featuring Porter’s musical score, was later released by MGM as “High Society,” a musical comedy starring Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.

The admission price for all performances is $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door of the Bryan Hall Theatre two hours before each performance.

Bryan Hall, with its clock tower tolling each hour every day, is one of the most recognizable buildings on the Pullman campus. It houses a 778-seat auditorium that is regularly used for music and theater performances.
