Golf course public forum set for Aug. 29

Washington State University will hold a public forum on its Palouse Ridge Golf Club project on Wednesday, Aug. 29, to update the public and address community concerns.

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. at the Neill Public Library Hecht Room.

Representatives from WSU, CourseCo Inc. and the city of Pullman will be available to answer questions and take comments. CourseCo, the firm hired by the university to manage golf course operations, is known for its commitment to the environment.

The university’s goal is to create a facility that ranks with the best college courses in the nation to serve the Palouse region. The course will be capable of hosting the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships. It will serve WSU athletics, visiting golf teams, and physical education classes as well as student recreation users and the general public.

Construction of the new championship golf course began in late spring of 2006 on a 315-acre site that includes WSU’s existing 92-acre, nine-hole course and additional university land. It is expected to open in fall 2008.

Designer of the Palouse Ridge course is John Harbottle III, considered one of the top golf course architects on the West Coast. He emphasizes playability and environmental sensitivity in his course designs.
