Students volunteer 13,000 hours in fall

Fall semester 2007, WSU students logged more than 13,000 hours of volunteer service to the community, according to WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement.  (Soundslide show link below.)

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) promotes student learning through engagement in community service, service learning, advocacy, public education and civic leadership. Student civic engagement includes the exploration of “self in society” through enhanced self awareness, knowledge of community issues and development of civic responsibility.

The CCE is a resource for students seeking to make stronger connections with community and faculty seeking to incorporate community-based learning and civic development into the academic curriculum.

Working in partnership with more than 100 nonprofit community organizations, staff at the Center for Civic Engagement create and facilitate service and leadership opportunities, help match community needs with student capabilities and work with WSU faculty to design community service experiences that extend and deepen the learning goals of particular courses.
