Spaces still available for summer academy



VANCOUVER — Students entering grades 7 to 12 in the Vancouver area still have the chance to study topics such as computer animation, journalism or biomedical science this summer at Washington State University Vancouver.

The university’s Center for Youth Workforce Preparation is offering the Summer PaCE Academy, Preparation and Career Exploration, Aug. 6 – 10, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some sessions are almost full – prompt registration is encouraged. Morning “Tracks,” taught by university staff, faculty and community experts, include Art with Computers, Exploring Other Worlds, Journalism and Media, Biomedical Science, Engineers Make It Happen, The Brain and Body, and Environmental Science.

Afternoon sessions will feature college and career preparation activities, with guest speakers including Microsoft internet child safety expert and mom, Linda Criddle. Criddle will also be offering a $10 session for adults on Internet safety 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Aug. 6. Registration is required at https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/cywp or 360-546-9222.
