Library specialist awarded Fulbright grant

Laila Miletic-Vejzovic, head of Manuscripts, Archives and Special Collections for WSU libraries, has recently been selected for the Fulbright Senior Specialists grant in library science at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, in Slovenia. She will work with the librarians at the National and University Library (NUK) in Ljubljana to assess their needs and to develop and implement the digitizing project they are planning for their old maps. She will also work with the head librarian in Ptuj, Slovenia, by conducting a survey of their resources and then developing and implementing a plan for cataloging their rare manuscripts (some dating back to the Roman Empire) and other printed material, and to create electronic bibliographic records for their individual titles to be posted online.

During this visit, Miletic-Vejzovic will give graduate and undergraduate lectures. She will also lead, and participate in, seminars and workshops, and present a paper, “Special Collections in a 21st Century University: Opportunities for Global Collaboration,” at the Slovenian National Library Conference in Bled, Oct. 14 – 16.

This Fulbright is a serial grant, consisting of two visits to Slovenia — one now and one in spring 2003.

Miletic-Vejzovic is a Fulbright alumna. In 1992, she was awarded the Fulbright Scholar grant for lecturing in library science, at the National and University Library in Zagreb, Croatia.
