Career development symposium slate for April 23

An academic career development symposium showcasing the careers of successful women in the life sciences is scheduled from 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. Friday, April 23, in room T-101 of the Food Science and Human Nutrition Building.

“While women have made great strides in the life sciences over the past few decades, they are greatly under represented in the ranks of tenure track faculty at WSU,” said Laura Corley, assistant professor of entomology.

Scheduled speakers include:

* Jill Bystydzienski, director of the Women’s Studies Program, Iowa State University

* Lynn Riddiford, professor of biology, University of Washington

* Sandra Ristow, associate director of the WSU Agricultural Research Center

* Kim Kidwell, associate professor of crop and soil sciences

* Ekaterini Riga, assistant plant pathologist; and Corley.

An open discussion will follow.

A reception is scheduled at 6 p.m. in 405 Lighty. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public. If you know any students who might benefit from this symposium, please alert them.

The symposium is being funded by a grant from the Associated Students of Washington State University, the Center for Integrated Biotechnology, the Women in Life Sciences and private donors.
