Washington State University Press books Captured Honor: POW Survival in the Philippines and Japan and The Oil Prince have been selected as two of only 29 Best of the Best of the University Presses: Books You Should Know About. The awards were presented by the Public Library Association and American Association of School Libraries members on June 26 at the American Library Association Conference.
To be selected, titles were submitted to an intense review by the 2003-2004 University Press Books Committee, which consists of librarians with expertise in various fields including art, literature, history, reference, and memoirs. Each evaluated tomes in his or her specialty area.
Captured Honor, by Everett, Washington author Bob Wodnik, depicts the agonizing experiences suffered by American prisoners of war held in Japanese concentration camps during World War II. The Oil Prince, an action-packed western set in 1860 s Arizona, is a translation of the tale originally written in German by Karl May, the most-read German author of all time.
