TRI-CITIES, Wash. — If the drought has you worried about watering your lawn and the cost of irrigating the landscaping is becoming an even bigger budget item than it was last year, a summer course at Washington State University Tri-Cities may provide some relief.
Restoration Ecology, a Friday-Saturday variable credit course featuring both in-class lectures and field trips, begins June 27.
Steven Link says his course is “basically about lowering water use and saving water in your own yard.”
Students will learn about xeriscaping (low water use) in their yards and landscapes by using water efficient plants.
“We’ll cover taking the environment back to its original plant community,” says Link, an associate scientist at WSU Tri-Cities. “We’ll also look at using plants that require little or no watering and take field trips on Saturday’s to some restoration ecology projects around the area, including private homes.”
