Among recent initiatives at the Center for Human Rights (CHR) is a Quarterly Human Rights Report, which will share information with WSU employees, students and others about complaints received by CHR. The first report, covering April-June, can be accessed from https://www.chr.wsu.edu.
Raul Sánchez, CHR director, said among his highest priorities is strengthening communication between his office and the greater community.
“The reports provide concrete facts upon which we can anchor discussions about human rights policies and practices,” he said.
The reports will discuss the types of complaints received, including where they originate and what results from their investigation. By documenting incidents consistently, Sánchez said that over time his office will be able to track trends, patterns and progress. CHR also plans an annual report at the end of each fiscal year.
The reports are part of a new vision Sánchez and his staff are developing. Other efforts include streamlining the process for handling complaints, working proactively to provide human rights education and offering departments more assistance with employee searches and other potential human rights issues.
