Washington State University alumnaes and breast cancer survivors Lisa Mehring and Jennifer Pederson will speak on their experience with breast cancer at the Oct. 27 Ribbon of Light observance on Glenn Terrell Mall.
The 6 p.m. ceremony will celebrate breast cancer survivors and remember those lost as part of breast cancer awareness month. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by Pullman Regional Hospital.
Mehring, a ’92 pharmacy graduate, and Pederson, a ’01 nursing graduate, each learned they had breast cancer at the age of 33. Both underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. The women hope to help educate women about the disease.
During the event, attendees will stand together to form the shape of a ribbon and use pink glow sticks to illuminate the Ribbon of Light. The pink ribbon is the worldwide symbol for breast cancer awareness.
