Revisions to student code of conduct in the works

The WSU community is asked to comment through December on the draft proposal of revisions to the student code of conduct.

The proposal can be found at www.conduct.wsu.edu/docs/11.8.2005.ModelCode.pdf. Comments may be made to Elaine Voss, director of the Office of Student Conduct, at vosse@wsu.edu. A letter from Voss explaining details of the process can be found at www.conduct.wsu.edu/ModelCode.asp.

The model for the revision, “A Twenty-First Century Model Student Conduct Code,” was authored by nationally recognized education scholars Edward N. Stoner and John Wesley Lowery. It has been endorsed by the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Association of Student Judicial Affairs. WSU made modifications to comply with state law.

The timeline for completion of the revision process anticipates that revised rules will be published and commented on in January, followed by public hearings on the proposed changes in February. Final approval from the WSU Board of Regents will be sought in May, with the revised code implemented in August.
