WSU Vancouver will host “Are We Safer in the Dark?,” a Sunshine Week dialogue on open government and secrecy Monday, March 13 at 10 a.m., in the Student Services Building, Room 110.
Moderated by Geneva Overholster, endowed chair from the Missouri School of Journalism, the event strives to raise awareness around the importance of openness in government.
The event is part of a national “Are We Safer in the Dark?” program, which centers on a Washington, D.C. panel discussion of nationally recognized experts addressing issues around open government and secrecy and its impact on communities.
The program also includes recommendations about how the public can access information from government. Participants at the WSU Vancouver sponsored event will view this panel discussion via satellite from Washington, D.C. An open dialogue about the local importance of these issues will follow.
Sponsored nationally by OpentheGovernment.org and locally by the WSU Vancouver Library, Ft. Vancouver Regional Library and the Washington State Libraries, the event is free and open to the public.
WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Parking rules are enforced Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking is available in the blue lot for $2.00 or at parking meters.
