The Pullman Civic Theatre will present ‘The King and I’ March 17-19 at Beasley Coliseum Theater.
Shows begin at 7 p.m. on March 17 and 18, and at 2:30 p.m. on March 19.
‘The King and I’ is a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination in a struggle of East versus West.
Set in 1862 in Siam, it centers on the story of an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arriving at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.
Advance tickets may be purchased through TicketsWest or the Beasley Coliseum website for $12 and $15. Tickets are $15 and $20 at the door.
