Student conduct draft will be revised

The draft of the WSU Student Code of Conduct is being revised following concerns that it would not adequately protect free speech.

The revised proposal will be available to the university community for review June 1 at the Office of Student Conduct and on its website at www.conduct.wsu.edu. Public hearings will be held and comments will be taken into the fall. The WSU Board of Regents is expected to vote on the new code during its Nov. 17 meeting.

A vote to implement the code had been set for May 5. But a March hearing raised concerns that opinions expressed on campus that were offensive to some might result in discipline that violated free speech rights.
