Regents to discuss budget issues Friday

Preliminary capital and operating budget requests to the state Legislature for the 2007-2009 biennium will be up for discussion when the WSU Board of Regents meets at 9 a.m. Friday, May 5, in Lighty 405 on the Pullman campus.

An agenda for the meeting is available at https://www.regents.wsu.edu/Agendas-Notices/060505Agenda.doc.

WSU’s top capital budget request for the upcoming biennium is for the remainder of the funding for the $72.65 million Life Sciences Building on the Pullman campus. The university received $10 million to move forward on construction during the last legislative session.

The focus of the university’s new operating budget initiatives, in conjunction with the University of Washington, will be to expand the state’s capacity for university research and to educate more scientists and engineers.

The regents also will:
• consider the student and activities fee rate and allocations for the 2006-2007 academic year;
• discuss presentation of the Regents’ Distinguished Alumni Award;
• consider enacting the mandatory student fee, approved by students in an election this spring, to support the renovation of Martin Stadium;
• consider the schematic designs for Phases I and II of the stadium renovation;
• establish board meeting dates and elect officers for the upcoming academic year.

Committee meetings of the Board of Regents will be held Thursday in Lighty and the French Administration Building.
