Area agricultural producers interested in diversifying into vineyard or tree-fruit production or who already are growing grapes or tree fruit are invited to a free WSU Extension workshop to learn the Crop Profitability Analysis computer program.
The workshop is 6-9 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in room 125A at Walla Walla Community College, Clarkston.
Participants will learn how to operate the CPA program and how to access existing enterprise budgets on the Internet.
The program uses previously generated enterprise budgets to establish a base from which producers and others can analyze the potential profitability of perennial crops. All assumptions, such as prices received, yields and costs, can be changed in pre-existing budgets so that producers can tailor the program to their situation.
Each participant will receive a copy of the program.
Contact Mercy Olmstead, WSU viticulture extension specialist, at (509) 786-9203 or molmstead@wsu.edu for more information and to register. Registration is limited to 22 computers. Couples may share a computer.
The workshop is being underwritten by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency.
