An honor recently earned by WSU is expected to translate into more interest in attending the university on the part of international students.
WSU was selected as a lead institution in one of four clusters of universities around the United States to host a week of training in November for overseas educational advisers administered by the College Board. The visit is being coordinated by Paul Svaren, International Enrollment manager, who also wrote the proposal.
WSU initiated contact with its partners in the proposal — University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, Gonzaga University and the Community Colleges of Spokane — in hopes of internationalizing all the campuses, said Lance LeLoup, associate vice provost of International Programs at WSU.
“This program will help advisers from all over the world learn more about WSU and other schools in the region, which should help make us a more attractive destination for international students,” he said.
The advisers are part of EducationUSA, a worldwide network of approximately 450 advising centers in 170 countries. They are affiliated with the U.S. State Department.
Not only International Programs, but many other units from admissions to institutional technology, will participate in the five-school cluster while training the six educational advisers who will visit Nov. 8-15, LeLoup said.
