PULLMAN– The Washington State University International Students’ Council will host the Fourth Annual International Education Week Sept. 22-29. The week aims to promote international awareness in the Pacific Northwest through different activities. All events are free and open to the public.
Party in the Park, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Reaney Park, will allows WSU students and the community to interact in an atmosphere filled with live music, food sales and different cultural displays.
International Movie Afternoon at the Audian Theater on Sunday, Sept. 24 will show two movies in their original language with subtitles. The movies will be “The Promise” from China and “Water” from India.
International Culture and Exchange Fair on Wednesday Sept. 27 will allow students to explore different cultures through table booths presented by the International student organizations.
Library Night, in collaboration with the Neill Public Library in downtown Pullman, will be targeted for children of all ages. This event consists of children learning songs in different languages and listening to story-telling from different cultures. Children will have the opportunity to dress in traditional clothes as well.
Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Arun Gandhi, will be the keynote speaker on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Beasley performing Arts Coliseum. He will talk about his grandfather’s teachings on non-violence.
Provost Robert Bates will be the speaker at the International Center Open House on Friday, Sept. 29, where he will share his study abroad experience in Japan when he was a student and how this experience influenced him personally and as the Provost of WSU.
The International Education Week is a joint effort between international and domestic students of WSU, Associated Students of Washington State University, the International Students’ Council, International Programs, the City of Pullman, Pullman School District, Neill Public Library, Pullman Parks and Recreation Department, Pullman Chamber of Commerce, The Audian Theater, WSU Department of Foreign Languages, WSU Center for Asian Studies, The Foley Institute, Education Abroad Office, Honors College, Campus Involvement and VPLAC.
