PULLMAN, Wash. – Nineteen members have been named to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee that will seek a successor to Washington State University President V. Lane Rawlins, who has announced his retirement next June.
On behalf of the WSU Board of Regents, Kenneth Alhadeff, board chair, announced the appointment of 16 more individuals to the committee today (Sept. 25). Earlier, Regent Rafael Stone had been selected as chair and regents Connie Niva and Laura Jennings had also been named to the committee. Alhadeff is an ex officio committee member.
“Our goal has been to put together a committee that reflects the statewide reach of the university. We were seeking distinguished members from a mix of disciplines and leaders from our different campuses,” Alhadeff said.
“We have named an outstanding group of diverse individuals that represent a wide range of interests throughout Washington State University’s campus system. I am sure they will work together well to bring the best slate of potential candidates to the Regents for their ultimate decision in selecting a president for WSU.”
The committee includes:
* Rafael Stone, chair, member of the Board of Regents;
* Larry Arcia, past president of the WSU Alumni Association;
* Barbara Aston, assistant to the WSU provost and tribal liaison;
* Jessie Baines, chair of Council of Multicultural Student Presidents at WSU;
* Dan Bernardo, dean of the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences;
* Anjan Bose, Regents Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences;
* Hal Dengerink, chancellor of WSU Vancouver;
* Jason Doss, president of the Graduate and Professional Students Association;
* Loretta Dragoo, program coordinator for Administrative Services;
* Len Foster, professor in Educational Leadership And Counseling Psychology;
* Laura Jennings, member of the Board of Regents;
* Mary Sanchez Lanier, associate dean in the College of Sciences;
* Nancy Magnuson, professor in the School of Molecular Biosciences;
* Linda Garrelts MacLean, assistant professor of Pharmacotherapy at WSU Spokane;
* Connie Niva, member of the Board of Regents;
* Leonard Orr, professor of English at WSU Tri-Cities;
* Chuck Pezeshki, chair of the Faculty Senate and professor of Mechanical And Materials Engineering;
* Mikal Thomsen, chair of the WSU Foundation Board of Governors; and
* Zach Wurtz, ASWSU president.
Alhadeff said it is likely that there would be at least one more member named to the committee in the near future.
The committee plans to hold forums across the state to gather input on what people are looking for in a new WSU president. The first two of these sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Fulmer Hall, Room 201, on the Pullman campus.
