Students to design fictional library in masonry competition

PULLMAN – As part of a regional competition, 34 students from the Washington State University School of Architecture and Construction Management are designing a fictional neighborhood library using a variety of masonry products.

The third-year students are competing for a cash award in designing a 10,000-square-foot library building as if it were to be located on a site across from Reaney Park near downtown Pullman.

The Northwest Concrete Masonry Association with headquarters in Seattle and the Masonry Institute Promotional Group of Spokane are sponsoring the competition.

Drawings and models of the students’ designs will be on display in the Main Gallery of Carpenter Hall Oct. 7-21. The public is invited to view them during regular building hours, which are from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily An awards luncheon to be held at the Fireside Inn in Pullman is planned for Oct. 18.
