April 23-27 is dead week at WSU but it’s also “Not Dead Yet Week,” featuring a debate and discussion on euthanasia.
The events are sponsored by WSU’s Disability Awareness Association to mark Disability Awareness Week.
“Euthanasia: Who lives? Who dies? Who decides?” will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in CUE 202. A reception with free food and free t-shirts will be 6-7 p.m. in the CUE atrium.
Dan Holbrook, WSU associate professor of philosophy, will take the “pro” side in the debate, with Stephen Drake, Not Dead Yet co-founder, arguing the “con.” Not Dead Yet is a coalition of national disability rights groups opposed to assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Drake and a panel of people with disabilities will discuss euthanasia noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Koinonia House north of the Bookie. Free pizza will be served.
A disability awareness concert will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in CUE 203. Dan Maher, with WSU Campus Involvement, will open with folk music, followed by rock music by Mark “Big Toe” Gofeney, who plays the guitar with his toes.
A reception from 6-7 p.m. in the CUE atrium will offer free food and t-shirts.
