A new mural project will join the traditional speakers, freedom school and food drive as WSU joins the larger community in remembering and celebrating civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 16-21.
Events will include:
* The Right to Dream: Share the Struggle, civil rights performance by Seattle’s Living Voices theater/multimedia troupe, 7 p.m., Jan. 16, Hartung theater, University of Idaho, donations.
* MLK campus distinguished service awards presentation, right after the above performance.
* Human rights community breakfast with speaker Rosalinda Guillen, community labor activist, 9 a.m. Jan. 19, Moscow Jr. High, $4-$8 at Bookpeople or contact jmuneta@uidaho.edu.
* Keynote speaker Judy Richardson, civil rights activist and educational director for the controversial PBS documentary Eyes on the Prize, 3 p.m., Jan. 19, Beasley coliseum.
* Freedom school civil rights workshops, all day, Jan. 21, Smith CUE 512.
* SLO (sustainable, local, organic) food drive, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Jan. 21, tables at Pullman Safeway and Dissmore’s will take food and personal and household care products for area food banks, organic, green or natural preferred.
* The YWCA civil rights mural project will include murals displayed around Pullman made from winning art submitted by local students.
