Help and counseling can be found in all sorts of ways as long as people keep their eyes open. Members of Streit-Perham are spreading the word of awareness throughout the WSU campus by handing out information to interested people on Glenn Terrell Mall.
The main purpose of the group is to let people know they have choices. The campout for hope tent will be on the mall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. They will also be joined by Council Services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday to inform people about different counseling and awareness techniques.
A speech will be put on by Reese Butler, founder of the prevention hotline, at WSU about suicide awareness at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at Cue 202. Butler will talk about how prevalent suicide is in our country and how it can be prevented with the right support. The speech will be free.
The group is selling T-shirts along with collecting donations to help support the National Prevention Hotline
Suicide prevention is larger than most think; the hotline receives around 40,000 calls a month. For more information or to speak with a representative people can call, 1-800-suicide.
The Suicide awareness campout is being put on by the Streit-Perham hall government, ASWSU, Residence Housing Association, Women Resource Center and Council Services.
