RICHLAND – Local public television station KWSU/KTNW premiers Tails and Trails: National Parks in the Northwest, two 30-minute episodes that feature the natural beauty of four of the Northwest’s national parks. The programs air on Saturday, Sept. 26, on KTNW in the Tri-Cities at 8 p.m.
Tails & Trails: National Parks in the Northwest features Whitman Mission National Historic Site, Nez Perce National Historical Park, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area and Hanford Reach National Monument.

KWSU/KTNW Production Manager Kari Watkins said: “The goal was to inform viewers about the places in our region that have been set aside by the federal government because people felt they were special or unique enough that they should be protected as they are for all time. We discovered that the more time you spend at the parks, the more you come to appreciate their amazing features,” she added. “From jet skiing to quiet solitude, from high-tech to prehistoric sites, these areas have something for everyone.”
These local productions accompany the long-awaited film from Ken Burns, “National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” That 12-hour serial documentary airs on KTNW beginning at 8 P.M., Sunday Sept. 27, and concludes Friday, Oct. 2.
