WSU Walton Lecturer is Insurance Journalist and Commentator

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University welcomes Richard Rambeck, widely acclaimed insurance journalist and commentator, to present the eighth annual Walton Lecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Todd Hall 230 on the Pullman campus.

The Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate in the WSU College of Business and Economics will host his presentation, entitled “It’s Not Your Father’s Insurance Industry.”

Rambeck is chairman and president of RamCom Ltd., a six-month-old company that provides writing, editing and written communication consulting services to mostly clients in the insurance industry. At RamCom, he provides news bureau services (newsletters, etc.) to several insurance agent associations in the West.

A former editor of InsuranceWeek (now Insurance West), Rambeck strove to bring a fresh perspective to insurance issues. His weekly opinion columns generated scores of requests to have him speak at industry functions, conventions, etc. to discuss market developments, the impacts of legislation and regulation, and how insurers often fall short in their attempts to serve consumers.

Rambeck has been a journalist/writer since 1979, when he was a sophomore at the University of Washington. He graduated from the UW with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in sports administration. He was a sportswriter and sports editor until 1987, when he began covering general business. He has maintained his connection to sports, however, and written more than 100 nonfiction children’s books of a sports nature since 1989.

The Walton Lecture is sponsored by the Independent Insurance Agents of Washington to honor its past president, Max Walton. The annual lecture brings to WSU prominent national insurance leaders.
