Andrea Cooper to Speak at WSU on Wednesday

PULLMAN, Wash. — Victim advocate and parent Andrea Cooper will speak to Washington State University students about the effects of acquaintance rape Wednesday, Nov. 8.

During the 7 p.m. talk set for Bryan Hall Auditorium, Cooper will speak about her daughter Kristin, a victim of an acquaintance rape that led to her depression and suicide on New Year’s Eve 1995.

This is the second time she has spoken to WSU students. In August 1999, Cooper spoke to more than 500 women during formal recruitment. “This is an emotional tribute to her daughter,” said Lori Lyman, WSU Panhellenic vice president of public relations. “Her speech relates to topics that every man and woman should know about — date rape and the possible aftermath of such a crime.”

Cooper is an alumna of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She has been recently named Denver’s Area Panhellenic Woman of the Year. In addition to the honor, Cooper has written an article about her daughter entitled “Coming out of the Dark” that received an award from the College Fraternity Editor’s Association.

The program is supported by the WSU Panhellenic Association and is open to the public without charge.
