Applicants Invited to Apply for Chance to Represent Voice of WSU Students on Board of Regents

PULLMAN, Wash. — Applications will be available Monday for next year’s Washington State University student regent position.

The student regent, the highest appointed position a student can hold while enrolled at WSU, represents all WSU students and holds full voting rights and privileges. Anyone interested in applying must have a desire to represent all WSU students.

For Distance Degree Program students or students who attend a branch campus, applications can be downloaded online at www.aswsu.org or www.regents.wsu.edu. Completed applications can be turned in to the student government office on each campus or faxed to Associated Students of WSU in Pullman at (509) 335-4927.     Applications are due by noon April 1 in the ASWSU office, Compton Union Building 325, on the Pullman campus.

Applicants must have a minimum 2.25 grade point average and have a general knowledge of the Washington state legislative process. It is suggested that applicants have a basic understanding of the function of the Board of Regents.

The student regent will be involved with the student government on each WSU branch campus and foster relationships with key living groups and large student organizations at the university.

A committee will review the submitted applications and notify those selected for an interview. Interviews are slated to take place April 5-6.

Following the interviews, the committee will select the top-three candidates to travel to Olympia to meet with Gov. Christine Gregoire who will then recommend one applicant for approval by the Washington State Senate.

Brady Horenstein, the current student regent, said the position is a very valuable learning experience.

“Holding this position taught me a lot and opened a lot of doors for me,” Horenstein said. “I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to do this.”
