WSU Veterinary College Hosts Horse Conference

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will host the 2003 Horse Conference and Expo in the WSU veterinary teaching hospital Saturday, Oct. 18.

The event will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The program is open to the public and will include events for adults and youth 4-H and FFA members.

The Expo Hall opens at 8 a.m. for registration. Vendors with equine products and information, along with WSU veterinary student clubs, will be present all day.  Food and coffee will be available at the event. Tours of  WSU’s $38 million veterinary teaching hospital will be conducted every hour.

Dr. Bob Schneider, a WSU board-certified equine orthopedic surgeon, will offer presentations on topics such as recognizing lameness, starting the young horse and pointers from a farrier. Lectures will also be given throughout the day by Dr. Pat Pryor, WSU’s board-certified animal behaviorist, regarding when to call a veterinarian, what is needed in a horse first aid kit, giving medications and equine behavior. 

A judging contest will conclude the program and provide a fun and educational experience for 4-H and FFA members. Youth judging teams will evaluate prejudged horses. The winning team will be presented with an award.
