Signings Set for WSU Book Illustrator

PULLMAN, Wash. — Mark Graham, assistant professor of art education at Washington State University’s College of Education, will be signing copies of “Where is Little Reynard,” a recently-published children’s book he illustrated, at the Bookie in Pullman on Nov. 8 and at BookPeople in Moscow, Idaho, on Nov. 9.

“Where is Little Reynard” is written by Joyce Carol Oates and published by HarperCollins.

Graham has provided illustrations for more than a dozen other books, including “Come Meet Muffin,” also authored by Joyce Carol Oates and published in 1998.

Graham provides instruction in art education to the future teachers at WSU, teaching them how to cultivate an understanding of art in their own students. Art education, Graham explains, is vital to educational innovation and reform, especially in the diverse, multi-lingual classrooms of today.

“Art education is too often considered an educational frill, but in fact, it is a crucial element in successfully teaching a diverse population of students,” he said.

The book signing at the Bookie on the WSU campus at Pullman is scheduled for Nov. 8, the day of a WSU home football game.  The signing is tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.  The game time may change, and if so, the signing will begin three hours before game time.

The Nov. 9 book signing at BookPeople in Moscow is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Graham’s presentation will include a slide show.
