Humorist, Essayist Michael Martone to Speak Oct. 5

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Department of English will present an Oct. 5 discussion by author Michael Martone as part of its Visiting Writers Series.

Martone will read from his most recent work beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Museum of Art/WSU.  A book signing and reception will follow. 

His latest work includes “The Blue Guide to Indiana” and “The Flatness and Other Landscapes,” a book of essays that won the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Award for nonfiction. Other books include “Fort Wayne is Seventh on Hitler’s List,” “Pensess: The Thoughts of Dan Quayle,” “Seeing Eye,” “Safety Patrol” and “Alive and Dead in Indiana.”

Martone has edited and contributed to two books of essays about the
Midwest, “Townships and “A Place of Sense,” as well as co-editing “Extreme Fiction” and “The Scribner’s Anthology of Contemporary Fiction.”

He is a faculty member at the University of Alabama.

The event is co-sponsored by the WSU Department of English and the Museum of Art/WSU.
