WSU, Nethercutt to Announce Research Initiative

SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington State University and Rep. George Nethercutt will announce a major new research initiative at WSU Spokane on Friday (Jan. 30) from 11 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the Riverpoint campus, 310 N. Riverpoint Blvd., in the Health Sciences Building, Rm. 110B.

The announcement marks the launch of a new focus area at the Spokane campus, expanding the scope of the campus’ applied research efforts with a multimillion-dollar federal grant. The new area will broaden the portfolio of research-related economic development tools for the region.

“With this development we are seeing a concrete demonstration of our system-wide principles for development of the WSU campuses, particularly Spokane,” said WSU President V. Lane Rawlins. “We are world leaders in more than one area of research, and some of those programs belong in Spokane, for the benefit of the regional and state economy.”

Nethercutt, Robert C. Bates, WSU provost, Rom Markin, WSU Spokane’s interim chancellor and WSU scientists and federal agency representatives associated with the research announcement will be available for interviews following the event.
